"Do Not Cling to Me" — Michel Scavuzzo Applies This Teaching Through The Divine Algorithm

According to the Gospel of John, when Mary Magdalene recognized Him, Jesus responded with words that have puzzled readers for centuries.

"Do not cling to me..."

Most people read those words and move on.

I couldn't.

The more I reflected on them, the more I began asking myself why Jesus would say something like that at such an important moment.

Was He rejecting Mary?

I don't believe so.

Was He simply telling her not to physically hold onto Him?

Perhaps on one level.

But I believe there is something much deeper happening.

That understanding has become an important part of how I view The Divine Algorithm, the framework I introduced in 2024 to explore the relationship between consciousness, the subconscious mind, neuroscience, spirituality, and our connection with God.

I believe "Do not cling to me" is one of the greatest invitations to spiritual maturity ever spoken.

Beyond External Dependence

Throughout His ministry, Jesus consistently shifted people's attention away from dependence on external things.

He challenged religious systems.

He challenged traditions.

He challenged fear.

He challenged the idea that truth belonged exclusively to institutions or authorities.

Again and again, He pointed people toward an inner relationship with God.

"The Kingdom of God is within you."

Those words completely change the conversation.

If the Kingdom is within us, then perhaps Jesus was preparing His followers for something extraordinary.

A relationship with God that no longer depended upon His physical presence.

The Teacher Was Pointing Beyond Himself

One of the greatest teachers doesn't create lifelong dependence.

A great teacher equips people to continue the journey.

I believe that's exactly what Jesus was doing.

"Do not cling to me."

In other words...

Don't remain attached to the physical teacher when the deeper invitation is to experience what I've been teaching you all along.

Truth isn't something you possess because you're standing next to someone.

Truth becomes alive when it transforms you.

That principle sits at the heart of The Divine Algorithm.

The Danger of Clinging

We don't only cling to people.

We cling to identities.

Beliefs.

Traumas.

Religious traditions.

Political ideologies.

Past successes.

Past failures.

Versions of ourselves that no longer exist.

Sometimes we even cling to certainty because uncertainty feels uncomfortable.

The subconscious mind loves familiarity.

Even unhealthy patterns can feel safe simply because they're familiar.

Neuroscience reminds us that repeated thoughts and behaviors become deeply established neural pathways.

The brain naturally returns to what it knows.

That helps explain why letting go can feel so difficult.

The Divine Algorithm begins by bringing those unconscious attachments into awareness.

Because we cannot release what we refuse to recognize.

Following Instead of Clinging

There is a profound difference between following someone and clinging to them.

Clinging creates dependence.

Following creates growth.

Jesus never invited people to become permanently dependent upon His physical presence.

He invited them to become transformed.

To renew their minds.

To love.

To forgive.

To awaken.

To know the Father.

Eventually every student must begin walking.

Not because the teacher has become unimportant.

But because the teacher has fulfilled His purpose.

The Same Principle Applies Today

I believe this teaching applies far beyond first-century disciples.

We often cling to spiritual leaders.

Authors.

Influencers.

Pastors.

Researchers.

Even ideas.

Including my own.

If someone simply memorizes The Divine Algorithm without living it, they've missed the point entirely.

I don't want people clinging to me.

I want them developing a deeper relationship with God.

I want them becoming more self-aware.

More compassionate.

More curious.

More honest.

More free.

The Divine Algorithm isn't meant to replace your journey.

It's meant to encourage it.

Freedom Requires Letting Go

One of the greatest paradoxes of life is that growth often begins where attachment ends.

Sometimes we have to release old beliefs before discovering deeper truth.

Sometimes we have to release fear before experiencing peace.

Sometimes we have to release old identities before remembering who God created us to be.

Perhaps that is part of what Jesus was inviting Mary—and all of us—to understand.

Don't cling to yesterday.

Don't cling to the form.

Don't cling to certainty.

Continue the journey.

Walk with God.

Live what you've learned.

That, to me, is one of the most beautiful expressions of spiritual freedom.

Final Thoughts

When I reflect on Jesus saying, "Do not cling to me," I don't hear rejection.

I hear love.

I hear trust.

I hear a teacher preparing His students to mature.

The Divine Algorithm carries that same hope.

Not that people would become dependent upon a framework.

But that the framework would encourage them to become more aware, more intentional, and more deeply connected to God Himself.

Because every genuine teacher should ultimately point beyond themselves.

I believe Jesus did.

I hope The Divine Algorithm does as well.
