The Importance of Listening to the One Within Who Guides Us All
Overview
There is a voice that rarely shouts.
It doesn’t compete with the noise of social media.
It doesn’t force itself into every conversation.
It doesn’t demand your attention.
Instead, it waits.
Patiently.
Quietly.
Always present.
I believe every human being has experienced moments when they sensed they should do something—or not do something—even before they could explain why.
Perhaps you suddenly decided not to take a particular road.
Perhaps you felt compelled to call someone, only to discover they desperately needed encouragement.
Perhaps you walked away from an opportunity that looked perfect on paper but felt deeply wrong inside.
Or perhaps you ignored that quiet inner knowing and later wished you had listened.
Many people call this intuition.
Others call it conscience.
Some call it wisdom.
I believe it is one of the ways the One within gently guides us toward truth.
We Have Been Taught to Listen to Everyone Except Ourselves
From the day we are born, the world begins teaching us who to become.
Parents.
Teachers.
Friends.
Culture.
Politics.
Advertising.
Religion.
Entertainment.
Social media.
Every voice has an opinion about how we should think, live, believe, look, earn, and succeed.
Most of those voices aren’t intentionally trying to mislead us.
But when we spend our entire lives listening outward, we can slowly lose the ability to hear what is happening inward.
One of the greatest tragedies of modern life is not that people lack information.
It’s that they have forgotten how to become still.
The Other 95%
In my book The Other 95%, I explore how much of our lives are directed by subconscious patterns operating beneath conscious awareness.
Many of our fears…
Our habits…
Our reactions…
Our beliefs…
Were formed long before we consciously chose them.
Without awareness, those patterns quietly shape the direction of our lives.
We begin reacting instead of living intentionally.
Listening to the One within begins with becoming aware of those hidden patterns.
Because it’s difficult to hear wisdom when unconscious programming is constantly speaking louder.
The Kingdom of God Is Within You
One of the most profound statements ever recorded is this:
“The kingdom of God is within you.”
For me, these words changed everything.
They shifted my attention from endlessly searching outside myself to becoming more attentive to what God might already be doing within me.
This does not mean that every thought that enters my mind is God’s voice.
Far from it.
Our minds contain fear.
Memory.
Emotion.
Conditioning.
Desire.
Imagination.
Discernment is essential.
Listening to the One within is not about blindly trusting every impulse.
It is about learning, over time, to recognize the difference between fear and wisdom… between ego and love… between reaction and truth.
The Divine Algorithm
This understanding became the foundation of what I call The Divine Algorithm.
I believe God has woven remarkable order throughout creation.
That order is visible in nature.
In biology.
In mathematics.
In consciousness.
And, I believe, in the quiet ways truth continually calls us toward greater love, integrity, humility, and wisdom.
The Divine Algorithm is not about predicting the future.
It is about becoming increasingly aligned with truth.
The more we remove fear, pride, resentment, and unconscious conditioning, the more clearly we can recognize the direction that leads toward life.
The Voice of Fear and the Voice of Truth
One of the greatest challenges is that fear often speaks first.
Fear says…
“You’ll fail.”
“They’ll reject you.”
“You’re not enough.”
“Stay comfortable.”
“Don’t risk anything.”
The One within speaks differently.
Not always with certainty.
But with peace.
With patience.
With courage.
With compassion.
With quiet conviction.
It doesn’t manipulate.
It invites.
Learning to distinguish between those voices is one of life’s greatest spiritual disciplines.
Silence Is Where We Learn to Listen
Most people fill every empty moment.
Music.
Television.
Scrolling.
Podcasts.
Notifications.
Conversation.
We have become uncomfortable with silence.
Yet throughout history, some of humanity’s deepest moments of spiritual clarity have emerged in quiet places.
Mountains.
Deserts.
Forests.
Gardens.
Early mornings.
Late nights.
Not because God only exists there.
But because those are often the places where we finally stop drowning out what has always been present.
Silence is not empty.
It creates space for awareness.
How Do We Recognize Genuine Guidance?
This is one of the questions I receive most often.
My answer is surprisingly simple.
I pay attention to what consistently leads toward:
Love.
Truth.
Humility.
Integrity.
Compassion.
Forgiveness.
Wisdom.
Responsibility.
Peace.
Guidance that continually moves us toward these qualities deserves thoughtful attention.
Guidance that feeds arrogance, hatred, manipulation, or self-deception deserves careful questioning.
Discernment protects us from confusing every strong emotion with divine direction.
Experience Before Certainty
I don’t believe God asks us to become experts before we begin listening.
I believe God invites us into relationship.
Relationships grow through time.
Attention.
Honesty.
Presence.
Trust.
No one develops deep discernment overnight.
Like every meaningful relationship, it grows through experience.
The more sincerely we seek truth, the more clearly we begin recognizing the difference between our old programming and the quiet wisdom that has always been inviting us toward something greater.
Listening Changes Everything
When we begin listening to the One within…
We become less reactive.
Less controlled by fear.
Less dependent upon external approval.
We become more patient.
More compassionate.
More willing to admit when we’re wrong.
More interested in truth than in winning.
Life doesn’t necessarily become easier.
But it becomes clearer.
Instead of constantly asking,
“What does everyone else want me to do?”
We begin asking,
“What is the most loving, truthful, and courageous response available to me right now?”
That single question has the power to change a life.
Final Thoughts
I believe the One within has never stopped guiding humanity.
The challenge isn’t that God has become silent.
The challenge is that we’ve become distracted.
We have surrounded ourselves with so much noise that we’ve forgotten how to recognize the quiet wisdom that has always been present.
My invitation is simple.
Slow down.
Be still.
Pray.
Reflect.
Spend time in nature.
Study.
Ask honest questions.
Listen with humility.
Then have the courage to follow truth wherever it leads.
Because the greatest guidance you may ever receive will not come from the loudest voice around you.
It may come from the quiet presence that has been walking with you all along.
