Parasites, Ancient “Demons,” and Modern Health: What the Essene Teachings and the Divine Algorithm Reveal
Overview
Throughout history, humanity has tried to explain suffering with the language available at the time.
Thousands of years ago, people described unseen forces that influenced human behavior as spirits, unclean entities, or demons. Today, we have microscopes, laboratories, and a far greater understanding of biology. We know that bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, toxins, and other physical factors can profoundly affect the body and mind.
What if these two ways of looking at reality aren’t always describing completely different things?
What if, in some cases, they are describing the same experience through different lenses?
This question has fascinated me for years, not because I believe every illness is caused by parasites or because every ancient story should be taken literally, but because I believe truth deserves to be explored from every angle. Science and spirituality should never fear one another. They should refine one another.
The Essenes and the Cleansing of the Body
Among the ancient spiritual communities often associated with preserving some of the earliest teachings surrounding Jesus are the Essenes.
Texts attributed to Essene traditions, such as The Essene Gospel of Peace, place extraordinary emphasis on cleansing the body, fasting, fresh air, pure water, sunlight, wholesome foods, and restoring harmony with nature.
Whether every historical claim about these writings is accepted or debated, one thing stands out.
They viewed physical purification and spiritual clarity as deeply connected.
They believed that what entered the body influenced not only physical health but also one’s ability to perceive truth.
That idea doesn’t seem nearly as strange today.
Modern research continues to explore how the gut communicates with the brain, how inflammation affects mood, how environmental toxins influence cognition, and how our microbiome may shape everything from immunity to mental well-being.
The body and mind were never separate systems.
Could Some Ancient “Demons” Have Been Physical?
When reading ancient texts, it’s important to remember they were written in a very different world.
People didn’t have microscopes.
They couldn’t identify parasites, bacterial infections, heavy metals, mold exposure, or neurological disorders.
They described what they experienced using the language of their culture.
That doesn’t mean every account of demonic possession can or should be reinterpreted as a medical condition. Ancient texts include many different kinds of experiences, and they should be read carefully and thoughtfully.
At the same time, it’s reasonable to ask whether some physical illnesses or infections may have appeared mysterious to people who lacked modern scientific tools.
Today we know that certain infections and diseases can influence mood, energy, cognition, and even behavior. That doesn’t explain every historical account, but it reminds us that the physical condition of the body can profoundly affect how a person thinks and feels.
Sometimes what appears spiritual may have a physical component.
Sometimes what appears physical may also affect our inner life.
The Divine Algorithm Begins With Awareness
One of the foundational ideas behind the Divine Algorithm—a framework I introduced in 2024—is that awareness always comes before transformation.
You cannot change what you refuse to observe.
Whether the obstacle is fear…
Trauma…
Chronic stress…
Poor nutrition…
Environmental toxins…
Or an underlying health issue…
The first step is always becoming aware.
Awareness isn’t about becoming fearful.
It’s about becoming honest.
Fear narrows perception.
Awareness expands it.
The more clearly we observe ourselves, the more intelligently we can respond.

For centuries, many people have treated spirituality as though it exists independently from biology.
I don’t believe that’s how we’re designed.
Your nervous system influences how you experience reality.
Your hormones influence your emotions.
Your gut communicates continuously with your brain.
Sleep affects discernment.
Sunlight influences mood and circadian rhythms.
Movement changes brain chemistry.
Breathing alters the nervous system within minutes.
None of these diminish spirituality.
If anything, they demonstrate the extraordinary intelligence woven throughout creation.
The more we understand the body, the more we appreciate how interconnected everything truly is.
Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science Can Walk Together
One of the greatest mistakes we make is assuming we must choose between ancient wisdom and modern science.
I don’t believe we have to.
Science provides tools for measuring.
Spirituality provides tools for meaning.
Science asks how.
Spirituality often asks why.
Together they give us a more complete picture than either can provide alone.
When we stop forcing them into opposition, remarkable conversations become possible.
Don’t Give Your Power Away
Throughout history there has been a tendency to attribute everything we don’t understand to external forces.
Sometimes we blame demons.
Sometimes fate.
Sometimes genetics.
Sometimes other people.
While each of those may influence our lives in different ways, they should never become excuses to stop paying attention to ourselves.
Your greatest power is your awareness.
Your ability to observe your thoughts, habits, emotions, relationships, environment, and physical health gives you opportunities to make wiser choices.
That is where transformation begins.
Living in Alignment
Whether someone is exploring fasting, improving nutrition, reducing toxic exposures, strengthening their nervous system, spending more time in nature, or simply becoming more present, the goal is the same.
Greater alignment.
Not perfection.
Alignment.
Because when the body, mind, and inner knowing begin working together instead of against one another, life often becomes clearer.
Not because every problem disappears.
But because you begin responding from awareness rather than reaction.
For me, that is one of the deepest messages found across both ancient wisdom and modern science.
The invitation has always been the same.
Know yourself.
Care for the body you’ve been given.
Quiet the noise.
And learn to recognize the wisdom that has been within you all along.
