The Divine Algorithm Explained for Teens and Young Adults

Overview

If you’re a teenager or a young adult, you’ve probably been told a thousand different things about who you’re supposed to be.

Social media tells you one thing.

School tells you another.

Friends have opinions.

Family has expectations.

Influencers promise happiness if you buy what they’re selling.

Algorithms decide what videos you watch, what news you see, and even what music you’re introduced to.

Everyone seems to be programming your attention.

Very few people teach you how to understand yourself.

That’s one of the reasons I introduced The Divine Algorithm in 2024.

First, It’s Not What It Sounds Like

When people hear the word “algorithm,” they usually think of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or artificial intelligence.

That’s understandable.

But The Divine Algorithm isn’t a computer program.

It’s a framework for understanding yourself more deeply.

It explores how your thoughts, beliefs, habits, emotions, subconscious patterns, and inner guidance work together to shape the life you experience.

It’s about becoming aware instead of simply running on autopilot.

The World Is Always Programming You

From the day you’re born, people begin teaching you what to believe.

Some of that programming is helpful.

Some isn’t.

You learn what success looks like.

What failure means.

What’s considered attractive.

Who you’re supposed to become.

What to fear.

What to chase.

Without realizing it, many of those messages become part of the way you think.

Eventually, you may not even know which thoughts are truly yours.

One of the most important questions you can ask yourself is this:

Who programmed me?

Not to blame anyone.

But to understand yourself.

The Other 95%

One idea I explore in my book The Other 95% is that much of our daily behavior is influenced by patterns operating below our immediate awareness.

Modern psychology and neuroscience show that habits and automatic responses play a significant role in everyday life.

The good news is this:

Patterns can change.

You are not trapped by every belief you’ve inherited.

You are capable of learning, growing, and making different choices.

Your Mind Is Powerful

Your thoughts matter.

Not because every thought magically changes reality.

But because your thoughts influence your attention.

Your attention influences your choices.

Your choices become habits.

Your habits shape your future.

That’s why learning to notice your thinking is one of the greatest skills you’ll ever develop.

You don’t have to believe every thought that enters your mind.

In fact, some of your most limiting thoughts may not even be true.

Your Heart Matters Too

Life isn’t just about logic.

Sometimes you encounter moments when something simply feels deeply true.

Not because someone pressured you.

Not because everyone else believes it.

But because something within you recognizes it.

I call learning to trust that deeper wisdom The Heart Compass.

It’s not about ignoring your brain.

It’s about allowing your mind and your deepest values to work together.

What About God?

People come from many different backgrounds.

Some grew up in church.

Some didn’t.

Some aren’t sure what they believe.

The Divine Algorithm isn’t about forcing anyone into a belief system.

It’s an invitation to explore your relationship with God honestly, thoughtfully, and personally.

One of the teachings that has inspired me most is Jesus’ statement that “the Kingdom of God is within you.”

Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time or asking difficult questions you’ve never felt safe asking before, you’re welcome to keep exploring.

Questions are not the enemy of faith.

Often, they’re where genuine faith begins.

You Don’t Have to Have Everything Figured Out

One of the biggest pressures young people face today is the feeling that they should already know exactly who they are.

The truth is…

Very few people do.

Life is a journey of discovering yourself.

You will make mistakes.

You’ll change your mind.

You’ll grow.

That’s not failure.

That’s part of becoming who you were created to be.

Practical Ways to Begin

You don’t need to change your entire life overnight.

Start small.

Spend a few minutes each day away from your phone.

Pay attention to your thoughts without judging them.

Spend time in nature.

Read books that challenge you to think.

Ask honest questions.

Practice gratitude.

Treat people with kindness, even when it’s difficult.

Notice what gives you genuine peace instead of temporary distraction.

Small daily choices often shape a lifetime.

Your Life Is Not an Accident

I believe every person has unique gifts, abilities, and a purpose that no one else can fulfill in exactly the same way.

The goal isn’t to become someone you’re not.

The goal is to become more fully yourself.

Not the version created by fear.

Not the version created by social media.

Not the version created by everyone else’s expectations.

The real you.

The person beneath the programming.

That’s what The Divine Algorithm has always been about.

Not giving you another list of rules.

But helping you become aware enough to discover the wisdom, courage, compassion, and potential that have been within you all along.

Because the most important person you’ll ever spend your life getting to know…

Is yourself.
