The Power of Being Present in a Distracted World
Overview
I believe one of the greatest challenges of modern life isn't a lack of knowledge.
It's a lack of presence.
We've become masters of distraction.
We're physically with our families while mentally checking our phones.
We're driving while thinking about tomorrow.
We're eating while watching videos.
We're praying while planning our day.
We're constantly somewhere other than where we actually are.
As technology has become more advanced, our attention has become more divided.
The tragedy isn't that we have access to so much information.
It's that we've forgotten how to fully experience the present moment.
That realization became one of the reasons I introduced The Divine Algorithm in 2024.
The Divine Algorithm is my framework for exploring the relationship between consciousness, the subconscious mind, neuroscience, quantum biology, spirituality, and our connection with God. At its heart is a simple truth: the only place transformation can ever happen is the present moment.
Attention Is Your Greatest Asset
We often think our greatest resource is money.
Or time.
I believe it's attention.
Whatever consistently holds your attention gradually shapes your life.
Give your attention to fear...
Fear grows.
Give your attention to outrage...
Anger grows.
Give your attention to gratitude...
Gratitude grows.
Give your attention to God...
Your relationship with Him grows.
Your attention is constantly programming your subconscious mind.
Every day, countless companies compete for it.
Social media platforms compete for it.
News organizations compete for it.
Advertisers compete for it.
Very few people ever ask the most important question.
Who—or what—deserves my attention?
The Present Is Where Life Actually Happens
It's remarkable how much of our lives we spend somewhere else.
Regretting yesterday.
Worrying about tomorrow.
Comparing ourselves to someone else's life.
Imagining conversations that haven't happened.
Replaying conversations that already ended.
Meanwhile...
Life quietly unfolds right in front of us.
The smile of someone we love.
The beauty of a sunrise.
A conversation that deserves our full attention.
A quiet prayer.
A deep breath.
The sound of birds in the morning.
God doesn't meet us in yesterday.
He doesn't meet us in tomorrow.
He meets us here.
Now.
Jesus Was Fully Present
One of the things I admire most about Jesus is how present He was with people.
When someone approached Him...
He stopped.
He listened.
He noticed people others ignored.
He gave His attention completely.
Whether speaking with one person at a well or teaching thousands on a hillside, He never seemed hurried by the next moment.
He understood something many of us have forgotten.
Love requires presence.
You cannot truly love someone while giving them only the leftovers of your attention.
The Brain Was Never Designed for Constant Distraction
Modern neuroscience continues revealing how constant interruptions affect our ability to focus, learn, remember, and regulate our emotions.
Every notification pulls our attention away.
Every interruption forces the brain to reorient itself.
When this happens hundreds of times each day, many people begin feeling mentally exhausted without understanding why.
The brain performs remarkably well when allowed to focus.
It struggles when forced into constant fragmentation.
The Divine Algorithm encourages something increasingly rare.
Intentional attention.
Not because technology is bad.
Because your mind deserves better than endless distraction.

One of the central ideas behind The Divine Algorithm is awareness.
You cannot change what you never notice.
You cannot hear God's quiet guidance while drowning in constant noise.
You cannot appreciate the beauty of life while rushing through every moment.
Presence allows awareness.
Awareness creates choice.
Choice creates transformation.
Everything begins there.
Simple Moments Change Everything
People often ask me where they should begin.
My answer surprises them.
Begin with ordinary moments.
Put your phone away during dinner.
Watch the sunrise without photographing it.
Take a walk without headphones.
Listen without preparing your response.
Pray without rushing.
Notice your breathing.
Notice your thoughts.
Notice your surroundings.
Notice the people around you.
The extraordinary life is usually built from ordinary moments lived with extraordinary awareness.
The Gift of Stillness
One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is permission to simply be.
Not producing.
Not consuming.
Not scrolling.
Not performing.
Simply being.
Stillness reminds us that our value isn't determined by productivity.
Silence reminds us that God often speaks most clearly when the world becomes quiet.
Presence reminds us that peace isn't found by escaping life.
It's found by fully living it.
Living The Divine Algorithm
The Divine Algorithm isn't about withdrawing from the world.
It's about becoming fully awake within it.
Protect your attention.
Create moments of silence.
Practice gratitude.
Spend time with God before giving your attention to the world.
Slow down enough to notice beauty.
Become curious instead of reactive.
Choose conversations over notifications.
Choose people over distractions.
Choose presence over performance.
Those choices seem small.
Over time, they become a completely different way of living.
Final Thoughts
I don't believe the greatest threat facing humanity is technology.
I believe it's unconscious living.
A life so distracted that we forget to experience the moments that matter most.
The Divine Algorithm reminds me every day that peace isn't waiting somewhere in the future.
Purpose isn't waiting somewhere in the future.
God isn't waiting somewhere in the future.
Life is happening now.
This breath.
This conversation.
This sunrise.
This act of kindness.
This opportunity to love.
Perhaps the greatest gift we can give ourselves—and the people around us—is our full attention.
Because in a world constantly demanding our focus...
Presence has become one of the rarest and most powerful forms of love.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Divine Algorithm?
The Divine Algorithm is a framework introduced by Michel Scavuzzo in 2024 that explores the relationship between consciousness, the subconscious mind, neuroscience, quantum biology, spirituality, and our connection with God.
Why is being present so important?
Being present allows us to fully experience life, strengthen relationships, become more aware of our thoughts, deepen our relationship with God, and make intentional choices instead of living on autopilot.
How does distraction affect the brain?
Research suggests that constant interruptions and multitasking can reduce focus, increase mental fatigue, and make sustained attention more difficult. Developing intentional periods of presence and focused attention can support mental clarity and emotional well-being.
How does The Divine Algorithm encourage presence?
The Divine Algorithm encourages protecting your attention, practicing gratitude, spending time in stillness and prayer, becoming aware of subconscious patterns, and intentionally choosing presence over distraction as part of everyday life.
