Why Go to Church? It's Not About Religion—It's About Becoming the Person You Were Created to Be
Overview
One of the questions I hear most often is surprisingly simple.
"Why should I go to church?"
It's a fair question.
Many people have stopped attending church altogether.
Others have never been.
Some have been deeply hurt by religious institutions.
Some believe they can worship God just as well on their own.
Others simply don't see the point.
I understand those perspectives.
In fact, I believe many people aren't rejecting God.
They're rejecting experiences that didn't help them grow closer to Him.
That distinction matters.
Because if church becomes only a building you visit once a week, we've missed something much bigger.
To me, church was never meant to be about attendance.
It was meant to be about transformation.
Why Did Jesus Gather People?
When you read the teachings of Jesus, something becomes obvious.
He constantly gathered people.
Not because He needed crowds.
Because people grow differently in community than they do alone.
People asked questions.
They challenged assumptions.
They encouraged one another.
They shared meals.
They helped those in need.
They learned together.
Church wasn't primarily about a building.
It was about people pursuing truth together.
I believe that's still what church should be today.
Can You Follow God Without Going to Church?
Yes.
I believe a relationship with God is personal.
No building creates that relationship.
No organization owns it.
No denomination controls it.
You can pray anywhere.
Meditate anywhere.
Read Scripture anywhere.
Experience God's presence anywhere.
But here's what I've learned.
Just because something is possible alone doesn't mean it's the healthiest way to grow.
Athletes have coaches.
Musicians have teachers.
Business owners have mentors.
Students have classrooms.
Human beings grow in relationships.
Spiritual growth is no different.
We Were Never Meant to Do Life Alone
One of the greatest struggles today isn't a lack of information.
It's loneliness.
People are more connected digitally than ever before.
Yet many feel more isolated than ever.
We need people.
Not because we're weak.
Because we're human.
We need people who encourage us.
Challenge us.
Support us.
Celebrate with us.
Pray with us.
Remind us of truth when life becomes difficult.
Church should be one of those places.
Church Should Be a Place to Ask Questions
One reason many people leave church is because they feel they aren't allowed to ask honest questions.
I believe the opposite.
Questions are often where faith begins.
The disciples asked questions.
People questioned Jesus constantly.
Throughout history, sincere seekers have wrestled with difficult ideas.
Questions aren't dangerous.
Dishonesty is.
A healthy church should welcome curiosity.
It should encourage learning.
It should create conversations rather than shutting them down.
Because truth never fears sincere questions.
The Kingdom of God Is Within You
One of the teachings of Jesus that has shaped my life most deeply is His statement that the Kingdom of God is within you.
That verse changed how I understand church.
If God's Kingdom begins within us, then church shouldn't simply give people information.
It should help people experience transformation.
It should help people recognize God's presence.
Develop wisdom.
Strengthen love.
Renew the mind.
Encourage compassion.
Church should help people become more fully alive.

These beliefs eventually led me to found The Way Within Church.
Not because I thought the world needed another denomination.
But because I believed people were longing for something deeper.
A place where questions are welcomed.
A place where truth matters more than appearances.
A place where neuroscience, psychology, human behavior, spirituality, and the teachings of Jesus can be explored together with humility.
A place where transformation matters more than performance.
A place where people from different backgrounds can gather with one shared purpose:
To better understand themselves...
To strengthen their relationship with God...
And to help one another become more loving, peaceful, and authentic human beings.
That is the church I believe Jesus envisioned.
The Divine Algorithm
Throughout my work, I describe an inner guidance system I call The Divine Algorithm.
I believe God has placed within every person the capacity for wisdom, discernment, compassion, creativity, and purpose.
Church shouldn't replace that relationship.
It should strengthen it.
The purpose of a healthy spiritual community isn't to tell people what to think.
It's to help people become more aware of the guidance God has already placed within them.
The Other 95%
One reason community matters so much is because much of our behavior happens beneath conscious awareness.
In The Other 95%, I explain how subconscious programming influences our relationships, beliefs, fears, habits, and decisions.
Many of us cannot easily see our own blind spots.
Other people often help us recognize what we've overlooked.
Sometimes growth begins because someone asks one honest question.
Sometimes healing begins because someone simply listens.
Community helps reveal what isolation often hides.
The Heart Compass
I also teach what I call the Heart Compass.
It's the quiet inner awareness that points us toward truth, peace, integrity, and love.
Church should strengthen that compass.
Not replace it.
A healthy church encourages discernment.
It doesn't demand blind agreement.
It helps people develop wisdom instead of dependency.
That's the kind of spiritual community I believe creates lasting transformation.
What Church Should Look Like
Imagine a church where...
Questions are welcomed.
People are valued more than appearances.
Truth matters more than tradition.
Science and faith are explored together instead of being treated as enemies.
Prayer is authentic.
Meditation and focused breathing create space for reflection.
People learn practical ways to improve relationships, mental well-being, purpose, and spiritual growth.
No one pretends to be perfect.
Everyone is committed to growing.
To me...
That's church.
What If You've Been Hurt?
If you've been hurt by a church...
I'm truly sorry.
Spiritual wounds can be some of the deepest wounds we experience.
But I hope you'll remember something.
People can misrepresent God.
That doesn't mean God has abandoned you.
Don't allow the failures of imperfect people to end your search for truth.
Keep seeking.
Keep asking.
Keep growing.
Because your relationship with God is too important to surrender because someone else got it wrong.
Continue the Journey
Everything I teach is built around one simple belief.
Lasting transformation begins within.
In The Divine Algorithm, I explore how God guides us through wisdom, discernment, and inner transformation.
In The Other 95%, I explain how subconscious programming quietly shapes nearly every part of our lives.
In The Heart Compass, I explore how to recognize the quiet guidance that leads toward peace, integrity, and purpose.
Through Who Programmed You?, I help people combine focused breathing, journaling, neuroscience, psychology, and spiritual practices into practical tools for lasting change.
These same conversations continue every week at The Way Within Church, where our mission isn't simply to help people attend church.
Our mission is to help people experience transformation.
My Hope for You
If you've been wondering whether you should go to church...
My encouragement isn't simply to attend more services.
It's to find a community that genuinely helps you grow.
Find people who encourage truth.
Who inspire compassion.
Who welcome questions.
Who help you become more like the person God created you to be.
Whether that's with us at The Way Within Church or somewhere else, don't settle for a faith that exists only on Sunday morning.
Build a relationship with God that transforms Monday...
Tuesday...
Wednesday...
Every ordinary moment of your life.
Because I don't believe church was ever meant to be something you attend.
I believe it was always meant to be a community that helps you become who you were created to be.
And in my experience...
That's one of the greatest gifts we can ever give one another.
